Hurricane Relief Run / Walk

Crow Athletics and
MDI Marathon race officials have announced
that they will hold the Crow Athletics Hurricane Relief Run. The distance between Bar Harbor, Maine
and New Orleans, Louisiana is 1,807.72 miles and the distance runners and walkers are hoping to
cover beginning Saturday, September 10 immediately following the MDIHS varsity football game.
The event will be held on the track beginning at approx. 4:30 PM and continue for the remainder
of the day, through the night, and well into Sunday. Runners and walkers of all abilities are
encouraged to show up and participate even if they might only cover one lap of the track.
Participants are encouraged to solicit and bring donations from their individual communities,
friends, and family members to help all those who have been so adversely affected by Hurricane Katrina...
Prize Money
"The Mount Desert Island has announced that beginning with their 2005 edition they will
be offering prize money to the overall champions, as well as to the top two male and female runners
that finish the demanding marathon route. In this exciting announcement the MDI Marathon will help
to ensure a high level of competition as runners not only will be competing for position but they
will be battling for a significant new prize purse of $2000..."
Nike Sponsorship
MDI Marathon officials are
pleased and excited to announce that they were able to assist the MDI Summer Hoops program,
founded and directed by Jason Ashur, in obtaining sponsorship from Nike who will be supplying

MDIslander Cup Challenge
"The Mount Desert Island Marathon is proud to announce the first
'MDIslander Challenge Cup' sponsored by the MDIslander newspaper as part of the
festivities surrounding the annual MDI Marathon. Runners or walkers from individual
towns located on MDI that register to walk or run in the Sunday, October 16,
event will be automatically entered in the challenge..."
